With record high temperatures giving the grass a tint of green it must mean golf season is officially here. I see that many of you have taken advantage of the nice days, dusted off the clubs and headed for the Newell Golf Club.

It is going to be another exciting year at the Newell Golf Course. We have a couple of projects in the works right now which when completed will be great
improvements.

Some of you have noticed the Clubhouse addition. After fighting coolers and trying to keep beverages cold for the last several years we knew we had to do something different and found a good deal on a walk in cooler. It is 8 ft X 8 ft with 3 glass display doors on the front. To make it work and improve the
kitchen/bar flow the board decided to add a 10 ft X 18 ft addition to the East. After review of ice costs we have also purchased an ice machine. The board is looking at making an investment in capital improvements which will help lower electrical and ice expenses. We will be able to eliminate two refrigerators and a freezer. It should also make a big difference in air conditioning costs. And most important is being able to keep our beverages at the proper temperatures.

The board hired Kevin Hampton of Nisland for construction of the structure and several volunteers have helped out with the destruction and interior finish work to keep the costs down. The majority of the work will be done by April 1st.

In an effort to help pay for the project we have scheduled a fundraising
tournament – THE ICEBOX OPEN. It will be held April 1st with a 1:00PM start time and will be held rain or shine. There will be special April Fools rules and Free Beer Please see the tournament flyers for more details. Againthis is a fundraiser for the cooler and kitchen improvements so we would hope for good support for the tournament and if you cannot be a part of the tournament but want to support the project we would welcome donations.
